This Is Your Best Weight Loss Strategy, According To Your Zodiac Sign

It’s no secret that weight loss is a highly personal experience: Strategies that might work well for your best friend could get you absolutely nowhere, and vice versa.

But your astrological sign is also really personal, and it can reveal a lot about who you are and what works best for you. With that in mind, we consulted Donna Page, a professional astrologer with a graduate degree in counselling psychology, to find out the best weight loss methods for each sign—she swears it can really make a difference. “If something isn’t connected to what you like or your personality, you’ll dump it,” Donna explains.

If weight loss is your goal, this is what the universe thinks you should try:

ARIES (MARCH 21–APRIL 19)

You want something that’s really going to challenge you, Aries, and you’re ready to go all in. Try an indoor-cycling class to indulge your competitive side, or start training for a half-marathon. For your diet, try out the DASH diet or MIND diet—you’ll find yourself gravitating toward “it” meal plans, and that’s okay. Above all, don’t get down on yourself if you start something and quit it. Just keep trying until you find what works for you—eventually, it’ll stick.

TAURUS (APRIL 20–MAY 20)

Weight loss is a marathon, not a sprint, and a slow, steady pace is right for you, Taurus. Check out exercises that allow you to really feel connected to your body, like barre or yoga. Just take a pass on starting out with an advanced pilates class—it’ll only frustrate you. Eating in moderation will really get you far. Set small goals, and stick with them, but know that it’s okay to have little treats here and there—they won’t impact the bottom line.

GEMINI (MAY 21–JUNE 20)

It’s time to recruit a gym buddy, Gem, because you’ll do best in a group situation. Plan to work out together once or twice a week so you can hold each other accountable (and have a little gossip sesh in the process). On the other days, take a class so you can socialize while getting fit. Just be sure to keep several classes in rotation—you’ll get bored if you do the same thing every time. Ditto for your diet: Skip anything that requires boiled chicken and steamed veggies every night—that’s not going to fly with you.

CANCER (JUNE 21–JULY 22)

Take a pass on trendy gym packed with people who are there to show off—that’s so not your style. Instead, look for a place that’s less flashy. Bonus points if it has a pool: Swimming is a great fit for you. Talk to a personal trainer to find out the machines that are best for you to up your comfort level. For your diet, consider Weight Watchers. Anything that still lets you enjoy comfort foods (in moderation, of course) is going to be a win.

LEO (JULY 23–AUGUST 22)

You’re all about dancing, Leo, and luckily that’s a pretty damn good form of exercise, too. Try a Zumba class, or start taking dance lessons on the regular. Anything that lets you express yourself and puts you in the limelight is golden. It’s important for you to have fun with your food, too, so try out a diet that lets you experiment with new dishes, like the Mediterranean diet.

VIRGO (AUGUST 23–SEPTEMBER 22)

You crave routine, Virgo—you just need to find the one you love first. Try taking up running or hit up an indoor-cycling class at your local gym. Once you nail down what you like, you’ll be set. On the diet side, consider counting calories. Tracking what you eat can work really well for you.

LIBRA (SEPTEMBER 23–OCTOBER 22)

You’re all about being social, Libra, so grab a buddy and hit the gym together. If you don’t have a reliable workout partner, try out a class like barre or Zumba. Injecting a little something artistic in your workouts makes it more likely you’ll keep it up. On the diet front, you’ll do well with something that lets you eat out and still follow an eating plan, like Weight Watchers.

SCORPIO (OCTOBER 23–NOVEMBER 21)

Personal competition is huge for you, Scorpio. That’s why you’ll love challenging yourself on the Stairmaster, elliptical, and treadmill. Or, if you’re craving something outdoors, take up cycling or running. You’ll love the feeling of getting in the zone and the satisfaction that comes with besting your own personal record. Calorie counting is a good weight-loss approach for you—when you put your mind to something, you’re good to go.

SAGITTARIUS (NOVEMBER 22–DECEMBER 21)

You’re all about team sports, Sagi, so look into your local rec leagues to see which type interests you the most. In between games, look into rock climbing, hiking, and biking—the outdoor aspect is key. For your diet, take time to learn about the different ones out there before you choose. Having all the info up front will make you much more likely to stick with it.

CAPRICORN (DECEMBER 22–JANUARY 19)

Head for the gym, Capricorn, because you’re going to love lifting weights. Talk to a personal trainer at your local club for guidance, and then start building some serious muscle. You may need a little push to get started—you’re busy, after all—but make a commitment to work on yourself and you’ll see some serious returns. You’re good with measurements and holding yourself accountable, so try counting calories for your eating plan to max out your results.

AQUARIUS (JANUARY 20–FEBRUARY 18)

Join a hot new fitness club in your area if you can swing it financially. You’ll love how modern everything is, and that will keep you wanting to come back regularly. If it’s not in your budget, look for an activity you can do with a group, like joining a running club or playing tennis. For your diet, do a little research on the top diets out there like MINDDASH, and Paleo to learn the science behind each one. Knowing the ins and outs of each will help you chose the one that feels right for you.

PISCES (FEBRUARY 19–MARCH 20)

Motivation is big for you, Pisces—you might need a push from a friend or a goal to help you get started. Once you’re ready to go, try a water sport like swimming or look into a more peaceful form of exercise like yoga or running. You’ll be more likely to work out regularly if you feel like it’s giving you a mental boost, too. On the food side, consider starting out with a bang, like eliminating sugar and processed foods from your diet before segueing into a more sustainable meal plan.
