This Post About A New Mum And Her Nurse Is Going Viral

There are plenty of Kodak moments involved in the birth of a child, but one that doesn’t get as much attention is what happens the delivery.

Jill Krause, a writer and mum-of-four behind parenting blog Baby Rabies, recently shared a stunning photograph taken by Katie Lacer, of a new mum as her nurse helps her go to the toilet after giving birth. She said it reminded her of the postpartum nurses who cared for her in her most vulnerable moments.

“I’ll never forget the faces of the nurses who followed me into the bathroom after delivering each baby,” she wrote. “That moment when I was so vulnerable, so tired, scared, shaky. My swollen belly deflating, and my modesty long gone. They treated me with such kindness and dignity.”

“For me, these have been moments of empowerment and confirmation that I have a real village to help me, even if just for that little bit of time in a bathroom, on a toilet, while a kind nurse shows me how to put an ice pad on my mesh undies.”

“Let’s hear it for the nurses and the doulas and anyone else who shows us how to make ice pad underwear or helps with that first shower post c-section!”

The post has quickly gone viral with thousands of mums sharing their own moving experiences and gratitude towards the nurses that looked after them.

“When I was pushing, I’ll never forget pulling my face away from my nurse’s chest to see her scrub top SOAKED with my sweat and tears. I was like, ‘Oh my god I’m so sorry!’ And she went, ‘Baby, this is life all over my shirt. Nowhere else I’d rather be. Now let’s get that baby out.’”

“I will never forget my nurse Arian at Rose Medical in Denver, CO! She was a true angel. She held me as I sobbed and asked her to check my butt because I was convinced it was inside out.”

“I was so exhausted and in so much pain after a long labor and c-section that once I got to the shower, I just stood there frozen in pain. My sweet nurse lovingly soaped me up and rinsed me off. It was a very humbling experience. I’ll never forget her.”

“I just loved how with my 2nd I would push and there were about 3 nurses standing at the end watching my hooha and I ALWAYS knew when I was getting close because the nurses would suddenly smile all huge at my vagina and talk in a higher voice lol. That’s how you know. No one is ever gonna smile at my vagina like that again. It was a beautiful thing.”

“I bled all over my nurses shoes. I had no idea I would gush blood after delivery. I was horrified, she just poo pooed me and took my hand and lead me to the bathroom, all the while I was leaving a murder scene in my wake. Nurses are a special breed.”

“I had the same nurse for all 3 of my babies….All three were born at shift change and each time she said ‘I’m not going anywhere, now let’s have a baby.’ It has been 2 and a half years since my last babe and I still love her to pieces.”

“My delivery nurse grabbed my cellphone without me asking and snapped pictures of my boyfriend and I when they first put the baby on my chest. It was honestly one of the sweetest things anyone could’ve done for me that day. I’ll always be thankful for that.”

“No one really talks about those moments after, where your dignity is gone and things you never thought possible are happening to your body and it all hurts and you’re in awe and also kinda want to die. The nurses know, and thank Beyoncé for them.”
