Kaley Cuoco Just Shared The Sweetest Photo Honoring ‘BBT’ Fan With A Rare Skin Disorder

  • Kaley Cuoco gave a shout-out to a “special friend” in her latest Instagram post.
  • Tonight’s episode of The Big Bang Theory will be in honor of Kaley’s Friend Isaiah Zarate, who has been at every taping for season 12.
  • Isaiah has a rare genetic skin disorder called epidermolysis bullosa, which causes his skin to form painful blisters.

The Big Bang Theory star Kaley Cuoco just took to Instagram to make a big announcement about tonight’s episode: The show is in honor of Isaiah Zarate, a longtime fan and friend to Kaley.

In the Instagram post, shared Thursday afternoon, Kaley included multiple pictures of herself with Isaiah. “Tonight’s NEW episode @bigbangtheory_cbs is in honor of my sensational friend Isaiah @redguy29 !,” Kaley wrote. “He has sat in the front row of our audience for the entire run of season 12.”

Kaley went on to explain that Isaiah suffers from epidermolysis bullosa (EB), a rare genetic skin disorder (she tagged the Epidermolysis Bullosa Medical Research Foundation in her post, too).

“When I look into the crowd, he always has the biggest smile on his face,” Kaley wrote about Isaiah. “He has become quite a key player here at BBT and I couldn’t love him more. Isaiah, thank you for always reminding me how a smile can change an entire day. You are an inspiration and I will fight with you to find a cure!!”

I’ve never heard of epidermolysis bullosa—what is it?

Epidermolysis bullosa is actually a group of diseases that can cause painful blisters on the skin, according to the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases (NIAMS).

Some people with the condition experience mild blisters, while others may deal with more severe blisters, some of which can form inside the body, in places like the tube that leads from the throat to the stomach, the mouth, and the bladder. In those cases, chewing and swallowing can be difficult, which can sometimes lead to nutritional issues.

Anyone can get epidermolysis bullosa, according to NIAMS, but symptoms usually first appear at the start of life, when patients are babies or toddlers.

While there’s currently no cure for the condition, dermatologists and general practitioners can prescribe medications to help to reduce discomfort and prevent infection. In some cases, patients may need to undergo surgery to separate body parts like fingers and toes, that may have joined together by the blisters.

You’ll have to wait until tonight’s episode to see how The Big Bang Theory honors Kaley’s friend, but from photos alone, I’ve got a feeling it’ll put a big smile on Isaiah’s face.
