Why activate your nuts?
Raw nuts contain chemicals that can interfere with the absorption of these nuts natural nutrient as they contain phytic acid and enzyme inhibitors which can reduce the body’s ability to absorb certain nutrients.
What are the benefits of activating nuts?
When nuts are soaked in water and salt for a period of time, it starts off the sprouting/germination process, as they are dehydrated at a low temperature. Soaking the nuts increases the nutrient value of the nuts as well as breaking down the problematic compounds of each nut which can help enhance their digestibility. Activating your nuts at home is also must more price friendly than buying them from a health food store.
Almonds, cashews, hazelnuts, peanut, walnuts
Soak Almonds in a bowl of room temperature water for 12 hours.
The water will need to be changed several times throughout the process as it becomes quite murky.
Pat dry the almonds with a paper towel and spread evenly onto a baking tray
Set your oven on Defrost mode at 25C. Bake for 12 hours.
Once the process is finished pop your almonds into a Tupperware container and into the fridge.
