Hilary Duff Opens Up About Overcoming Her Body-Confidence Issues
Hillary Duff has been open about her struggles with feeling confident in her own skin. But since giving birth to son Luca four years ago, she seems to have gained some self-acceptance.
The actress, 28, conveyed a lot of body confidence during her June 28 appearance on the US Today show, as she explained she no longer feels pressured to look flawless rocking a swimsuit.
“I don’t care to look absolutely perfect in a bathing suit,” Duff said. “I’m a normal girl. I’m strong. I’m fit. I feel good about myself after I’ve had a baby.”
Conceding she still does “go through ups and downs,” Duff articulated her positive outlook, saying: “I’m totally fine with that.”
Duff hasn’t always been so body-confident and at age 17 weighed just 44kg. “I was totally obsessed with everything I put in my mouth,” she said. “And my body wasn’t that healthy—my hands would cramp up a lot because I wasn’t getting the nutrition I needed.”
She also spoke about the pressure she felt getting back into shape after the birth, saying: “Oh my God, everyone was so hard on me because it took me a year and a half to get my body back!” she said.
Duff confidently rocked a toned bikini look earlier this year while on holiday in Hawaii with her ex, Mike Comrie, and their son, Luca.
Despite finalising their divorce in February, Duff and the retired ice-hockey pro have remained amicable.
“I wouldn’t say we have a cordial relationship, I would say we have a really strong friendship and a lot of love for one another,” she told Entertainment Tonight in June 2015. “We’re a family, and we’re always going to be a family.”
