Vicar uses cardboard cut-out of Peter Crouch to enforce social distancing

Despite being in a global pandemic, some people seem to have a problem understanding the importance of social distancing.

To remind them just how crucial it is to stay two metres away from one another, one man has got creative.

Rev Nick Bromfield is using a cardboard cut-out of footballer Peter Crouch – to show his congregation what two metres of social distancing looks like.

He said the ex-England, Liverpool and Southampton striker – famous for his 6ft 7ins frame – is the perfect way to get the message across.

The rector at St Mary’s Church in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, bought the cut-out online.

Now members of the congregation have no problem understanding how far to stay from each other.

Rev Bromfield said: ‘A picture says a thousand words.

‘There’s a lot of signage that has come along with Covid-19 – all of it very important and worthy of notice – but there is such a thing as sign fatigue.

‘To show someone in a picture form what social distancing really means – two metres apart – Peter makes the point very well.

‘Peter Crouch greets visitors as they arrive for worship at St Mary’s at present and will no doubt be featuring in other churches around north Cheltenham soon.’

If Crouchey isn’t doing the job then might we recommend Chris Hemsworth, Nicole Kidman (in heels), or even Shaq if you want more than the two-metre gap?
