U.S. COVID-19 cases average 136,000 per day, daily deaths above 1,000 – CDC director

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The United States had an average of 136,000 COVID-19 cases, 11,750 hospitalizations and more than 1,000 deaths in its most recent seven-day period, U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky said on Friday.
Walensky told reporters that a recent study showed that people who did not get a vaccine against COVID-19 were about four and a half times more likely to get the virus, more than 10 times more likely to be hospitalized and 11 times more likely to die from the disease than those who had been vaccinated.
