Study Finds Eating This Food Twice A Week Is Linked To A Higher Risk Of Death
We know hot chips are no health food but we didn’t know they were this bad.
Research recently published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that consuming fried potatoes two times a week was associated with double the risk of death.
The eight year study observed 4400 people in the US between the ages of 45 and 79, and by the end of the period 236 people had died.
The researchers found that participants who ate fried potatoes (in whatever delicious form they came in – fries, hash browns, potato gems, etc) twice or more a week had an increased mortality risk double that of people who did not eat them.
Thankfully these statistics are not linked to other kinds of potato consumption so we can still go hard on the mash.
Plus, we need to highlight that they found an association between these factors so it isn’t like fried potatoes, themselves, cause death. The high consumption of hot chips could be a part of a bad diet or other lifestyle factors.
So like everything in life, moderation is key.
